The Miz & Shane McMahon look to live up to their lofty “best tag team in the world” nickname at Royal Rumble when they challenge SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bar.

The newly aligned tandem will face off against the reigning champions after good boasting from The Miz during the Jan. 8 edition of SmackDown LIVE. Talking a good game, The A-Lister cited his team’s ability to rise to the occasion – as well as a prior victory – as reason for being viable contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles

. Now that the match has been made, The Miz & Shane-O-Mac face their biggest test.

Where Cesaro & Sheamus have years together and championship-proven chemistry, the “co-besties” still have work to do. Earlier this month, the pair got into a squabble over matching ring gear that eventually spilled onto Instagram and further spotlighted their clash of personalities (and style) for all to see. If they want to become “The Best Tag Team in the World” and add the SmackDown Tag Team Championship to their mantle, The A-Lister and Best in the World trophy co-parent will need to be on the same page at Royal Rumble.

In what promises to be another classic title fight at Royal Rumble, WWE Champion “The New” Daniel Bryan will once again go to war with a determined AJ Styles, who is laser-focused on reclaiming his title.
The situation seemed simple enough on SmackDown LIVE back in November when the two  highly-competitive Superstars looked to settle their issues with an impromptu WWE Championship Match just five days before Survivor Series, but The Beard threw the mother of all curveballs in the title bout.

Becky Lynch defeated Carmella and Charlotte Flair To Earn A Royal Rumble Title Shot

Flair climbed to the top turnbuckle but Lynch caught her. She slammed Flair onto a prone Carmella. Lynch and Flair traded forearms and chops in the middle of the ring. Carmella nailed Flair with a weak looking kick. Carmella locked on a submission and rolled up Flair for near fall. Flair fought back and hit a moonsault onto both Lynch and Carmella.

Flair and Lynch fought on the top turnbuckle. Lynch attempted a superplex but Carmella yanked Lynch off. Carmella caught Flair with a hurricanrana off the top. She followed up with a suicide dive on Lynch to the floor. Flair went for a moonsault but both Carmella and Lynch moved.

Lynch went for the Dis-arm-her on Carmella but Flair hit the Natural Selection. Flair locked on the Figure Eight on Carmella but Lynch hit a leg drop off the top for a near fall. She quickly locked on the Dis-arm-her but Carmella broke it up with a superkick. Flair hit the spear on Lynch out of nowhere.

The finish came when Lynch locked on the Dis-arm-her on Carmella for the win. Lynch earns the title shot against SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka at the Royal Rumble.

CHAMPIONS INHIPS WILL BE ON THE LINE, AND NATURALLY, BOTH THE MEN'S AND WOMEN'S ROYAL RUMBLE OVER-THE-TOP-ROPE BOUTS WILL TAKE PLACE AS THE COMPETITORS VIE FOR THE WRESTLEMANIA SPOTLIGHT. 

There's still a few more weeks until the Royal Rumble event goes down, but let's now take a look at the card as it's shaping out with two big championship matches already set for Chase Field. Men's Royal Rumble: As is customary, 30 men will step into the ring to take part in the traditional the over-the-top rope affair with the right to challenge either world champion at WrestleMania 35 on the line. Last year's bout brought us a first-time winner in Shinsuke Nakamura, so will this year bring us another competitor adding a Royal Rumble victory to his accolades? Confirmed entrants: Drew McIntyre, R-Truth (No. 30)

30-Woman Royal Rumble: The women made history last year in Philadelphia as the first female Rumble match in history claimed the main event spotlight, with Asuka emerging victorious. Thirty of the best female talents in the company will again take to the ring vying for the chance to get their WrestleMania moment come April. Confirmed entrants: Carmella (No. 30)

Universal Championship -- Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Braun Strowman: After taking down Baron Corbin (with some help) at TLC, Strowman will get at least one more chance to dethrone the "Beast Incarnate," so is this finally the moment for him to win the title? Either way, the outcome of this one will finally add some clarity to the universal title picture for WrestleMania, which has been cloudy since the abrupt departure of Roman Reigns.

This match was randomly announced for Royal Rumble during an episode of Main Event on WWE Network only for ex-SmackDown general manager Paige to jump on Twitter and explain that it was not actually official. Considering the graphic was made already, one must assume this is in WWE's plans -- at least for now.

Raw Women's Championship -- Ronda Rousey (c) vs. Natalya: Rousey, who made her shocking debut at last year's Royal Rumble event, is clearly on a path to facing either Lynch or Charlotte Flair (or both) at WrestleMa

No matter what happens, look for both men to make appearances in the men's Rumble match during the event. 

At this time, it's not completely clear what the future may hold for both the Raw and SmackDown tag team titles, as well as the United States championship. After his victory over Cedric Alexander at TLC, champion Buddy Murphy asked 205 Live general manager Drake Maverick for some more strenuous competition, though it's not clear who may step up to the plate.
